Jackson sales

The headboard from Michael Jackson's deathbed was withdrawn from auction on Tuesday at the request of the singer's family.
But previously unseen footage of the King of Pop's 1993 concert tour is up for sale in London this month, and auctioneers say it could fetch up to $6 million.
The London-based Fame Bureau is selling the concert footage, filmed during Jackson's "Dangerous" tour in 1993 at a stop in Argentina, on Nov. 26. If the film meets expectations, it would become among the top prices ever paid for any pop culture memorabilia at auction.
It was shot by Jackson's production crew and meant to be an intimate portrait of Jackson on tour. But the singer was unhappy with the quality and gave the lone copy to his driver, who is now selling the footage, the auction house said.
"It's a film that's frighteningly personal and up-close," said Fame Bureau CEO Ted Owen in an interview posted on YouTube. "It's like you're on stage with Michael Jackson".
A DVD of the "Dangerous" concert tour, filmed in Bucharest, was released in 2005 and is still available on Amazon.com and other retailers for about $12.
Items related to Jackson have skyrocketed in value since his death in 2009. The red and black leather jacket he wore for his 1983 "Thriller" video sold for $1.8 million in Los Angeles in June.
But an elaborate antique Louis XV-style headboard from the bed where Jackson died on June 25, 2009 is no longer among potential Jackson collectibles, according to Julien's Auctions.
It carried an asking price of $3-5,000 in a December sale of items from the rented Los Angeles mansion where the 50 year-old singer was found lifeless more than two years ago.
But auctioneer Darren Julien said the headboard was removed from sale at the request of the Michael Jackson estate and the singer's family.
"We want to maintain a good relationship with the family and we don't want to do anything upsetting for them," said Julien.

Rockstar Review

Cut to the past, Janardhan Jakhar (Ranbir Kapoor) a.k.a Jordan a simple haryanvi boy from Pritampura Delhi who yearns to become a big singer someday falls prey to multiple suggestions intending only to cause mockery. One of the many suggestions is to undergo a heart break or inhabit a pain in the heart because as Khatana, the canteen owner (Kumud Mishra) says, "toote dil se hi sangeet nikalta hai".

Janardhan thinks he hasn't seen bad times and to come to the stature of Jim Morrison he has to do something about it. That's it, enters Heer Kaul (Nargis Fakhri) a PYT of the Stephen's College. While the entire college ogles her, Janardhan keeps proposing her for her to humiliate him and in turn give a much needed heart break. That doesn't quite happen, but in the process they both become friends and soon after Janardhan gets coined Jordan and through many highs and lows of his life, the simple gullible boy turns to an angry Rockstar!

However, just when your expectations are hightened with the first half and you look forward to the second you are in for a huge disappointment. So much to your agony you have a reasonable sick and bed ridden Heer who gets better only when she meets Jordan. He has some apparent "magic" in him to be curing her just by sight so much so that she starts walking, going places and even her medical condition magically improves. And in his absence she again goes back to being sick.

Ranbir Kapoor excels in his acting and gives a crackling performance. A pleasure and delight to see Shammi Kapoor in complete glory! Music by AR Rahman needs no mention as it already has the nation tuned to it.

Over all, Rockstar may not be one of the finest attempts but is definitely worth a watch for its pleasing first half and the ace performance of Ranbir Kapoor.

Harry Potter leads People's Choice nominations

The People's Choice Awards isn't until next January, but they've already started to roll out the nominations. Over 40 million people cast their vote for the nominees and there are three clear leaders in each respective category that definitely stand out from the pack.

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" scored nine nominations for the film section of the awards -- including a shot at "Favorite Movie." Other films nominated are “Bridesmaids,” “The Help,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Strangers Tides” and “Transformers: Dark of the Moon."

As far as TV shows go, "Glee" got the most love this year, with seven nominations. But thanks to America's revived -- no pun intended -- fascination with zombies, "The Walking Dead" was given a nod in the favorite sci-fi show category.

Musically, Katy Perry leads the singing pack at the People's Choice Awards, with seven nominations. But don't worry, both Lady Gaga and Beyonce earn their share too with five noms each.

So, did the American Choice Awards voters get it right? Are "Harry Potter," "Glee" and Katy Perry the hottest things in entertainment right now?

Aamir's film finally gets his title Talaash

It's Talaash and not Dhuan. Aamir Khan's next scheduled for June 1, 2012 finally has a title.

Dhuan was the working title but producer Ritesh Sidwani and director Reema Kagti and the cast of the film took to Talaash. A source reveals, "It was after much deliberation that Reema,Farhan (Akhtar) and Ritesh zeroed in on the name."

Madhuri Dixit to relocate to India

Twelve years after she abandoned a thriving Bollywood career to get married and move to the U.S., Madhuri Dixit is packing her bags and returning to India.
The 44-year-old actress said she was moving back from Denver along with her husband Sriram Nene and two children.
“For all my fans, we r relocating to India! It will b good to b back home,” Dixit wrote on her Twitter account on Saturday night.
Dixit said Nene, a doctor by profession, had some opportunities in Mumbai that he would like to explore and that the move was “pre-ordained".
The couple have already begun scouting for schools and will live in Dixit’s flat in the posh Juhu suburb of Mumbai, home to many Bollywood stars.
“Everything is changing rapidly in India. It is a land of opportunities. There is so much to do here,” the Mumbai Mirror quoted her as saying.
Even after her move to Denver, Dixit had a successful stint on Indian television, shuttling between Mumbai and Denver for most of 2011 to judge a popular dance show and host a food programme.

"Moneyball" top draw at Mumbai film festival

Brad Pitt drama "Moneyball" kicks off the 13th Mumbai Film Festival on Thursday with organisers hoping to raise the profile of the event and bring it on par with other film festivals.
More than 200 films from 50 countries will be screened at the eight-day festival, including George Clooney’s directorial venture “The Ides of March”.
“We are also having a special screening of films from Cannes Critics Week and also debut Indian films which won National Awards,” festival director Srinivasan Narayanan told Reuters.
Apart from Pitt's baseball drama, Lars Von Trier's “Melancholia” and “The Whistleblower” starring Rachel Weisz are also a part of the festival line-up.
British director Hugh Hudson, best known for "Chariots of Fire", heads an international jury that includes Indian actress Sarika. Hudson will also conduct a masterclass session at the festival.
Narayanan said the Mumbai film festival is gaining both popularity and credibility.
“We are working at making the Mumbai film festival a world-class festival and we are very happy with the selection of films we have got this time," he said.
Prize money of $200,000 is up for grabs in the competition section.
Tributes will be paid to actor Shammi Kapoor, artist M F Husain and director Mani Kaul, all of whom died this year. Director-lyricist Gulzar will be honoured with a lifetime achievement award.
Narayanan said the Mumbai film festival will also have a film market, with buyers from non-traditional markets like South Korea also in the fray.

Celebrities React to Steve Jobs' Death

Bill Gates:
"I'm truly saddened to hear of Steve Jobs' death. Melinda and I extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends, and to everyone Steve has touched through his work... The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come. For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it's been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely."

Mark Zuckerberg:
"Steve, thank you for being a mentor and a friend. Thanks for showing that what you build can change the world. I will miss you."

 President Barack Obama:
"The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve's success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented. Michelle and I send our thoughts and prayers to Steve's wife, Laurene, his family, and all those who loved him."

Amitabh Bachchan upset over fake ID

The just-released Shah Rukh Khan starrer might be receiving mixed reactions with kids going gaga over it, while others seem to find the film just okay. But what's most interesting is that Big B seems to be criticizing the film.
Well, we are talking about the fake Big B.When he happened to see it, Amitabh immediately clarified it on his Twitter account, saying, "ATTENTION !!! Someone using my fake ID and writing rubbish ..My ID is @SrBachchan .. fake ID being disgustingly used is @ SrBachhann...Fake ID of mine being used to write opinions on Ra.One .. I have not even seen the film and shall always wish the best for ShahRukh..." (sic)
Big B further added, "...and not just these comments on Ra.One ..many malicious, completely false accusations are being directed to me..I will not tolerate !...Of late a great amount of negative, malicious, completely untrue remarks being written against me .. I shall bear with silence .. but... BEWARE THE FURY OF A SILENT MAN ... !!!!"
This could be a reaction to the alleged sexual allegations that actress Sayali Bhagat leveled against the Sr Bachchan. A press release stated that Sayali has accused Big B of misbehaving with her. Other names also included Sajid Khan, Aarya Babbar and Shiney Ahuja. Sayali, however, has clarified that the news and the press release is false.

Pattinson hopes 'Twilight' love scene works

Actor Robert Pattinson hopes his sex scene with his real-life girlfriend Kristen Stewart in "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" lives up to the hype.
The British actor features in an intimate scene with Stewart in the vampire moive, in which they play Edward Cullen and Bella Swan respectively. He is nervous about how the scene is received because of the fans' expectations.
Referring to the original novel written by Stephenie Mayer, Pattinson said: "It's funny, people talk about sex scenes in the book but there aren't actually any. It's all in people's imagination. They're like, 'It's so hardcore.' But it always fades to black. It just shows bits of the aftermath."
"It's strange trying to do a singular event which everyone is expecting. At the end of the day, watching other people have sex is never going to be that spectacular. Hopefully, it'll be good. There's so much hype. You're like, 'God, I hope this lives up to it!'" he added.

The Dirty Picture

Ladies VS Ricky Bahl

Miley Naa Miley Hum Review

Going by the promos, one expected this to be a romantic flick. Sure enough like a lot of half-baked ingredients added to the film, romance is one of it, but then there’s the family track and a sports track too! It’s a little bit of this and a little bit of that and unfortunately these little bits of everything don’t make up for a wholesome entertainer. It’s like a good-looking buffet, but with all dishes half-cooked.
So there’s Chirag (Chirag) who grows up torn between his divorced rich parents played by Poonam and Kabir — two diametrically opposite people — who try and mould their son their way in the one-month that he spends with each of them. So, while he wants to pursue his passion for tennis, mamma disapproves, as it’s a passion with her former husband too. Papa dearest meanwhile is completely anti mamma-spoiling-the-son-with-too-much-pampering bit. Trying to one up on each other, the warring parents try to get him hooked to two different girls of their choice.
Mom goes for the NRI types, while dad’s choice is a Punjab ki kudi. But while Chirag tries to grapple with the parents and the two ladies,Kangna steps in. What follows is rather predictable right till the end.
This film is Chirag’s debut vehicle, but while you see specks of sincerity in some of the emotional scenes towards the end, the hero fails to impress completely in the first half. He seems too camera-conscious and his body language is more like the stud-looking types who step out straight from the gym. He has a good face, but he really needs to work in the expression department and uff, please get rid of that hunky body-builder walk.
What he desperately needs are some acting classes and a good director, and may be then he can hope for a Bollywood career that extends beyond his first few films.
As for Kangna, she needs to fire her hair-stylist and do it quick.
That apart she tries hard to do a Sreedevi-ish comic act, but manages to make you laugh only in parts. Diction classes will help too. Kabir and Poonam do a far better job than their young counterparts. Like the story line and the performances, the dialogues are average too. Overall, watch if desperate, but taking a pillow along won’t be a bad idea.

Loot

Loot Review

You'd have to jog your memory to remember, but a long, long time ago, Govinda actually had the comic chops to make you laugh. His spot-on timing and flair for the slapstick were virtually unrivaled. Today, unfortunately he's like a grizzled lion that has lost his bite. Watching him in 'Loot', alongside such repeat offenders as Sunil Shetty, Javed Jaffrey and Mahaakshay Chakraborty, you're filled with pity as you witness him struggle to make a joke stick. He's reduced to doing strange accents in a loud voice. And he's just not funny anymore.
Neither is 'Loot', for that matter, although it's intended as an action-comedy about four conmen on the run from the cops and some goons, when their underworld boss sends them to Thailand on an assignment. Working off a lazy script, director Rajnish Raj Thakur's film borders on Chinese torture – the plot is pointlessly complicated, the dialogues are expectedly third-rate, and the performances, right from Mahesh Manjrekar to Ravi Kissen, Kim Sharma and singer Mika (making his acting debut), are so grating that sitting in the theatre, you feel as if someone has just run their nails down a blackboard. Precious little is expected out of Sunil Shetty and Mahaakshay Chakraborty, but Javed Jaffrey and Govinda can't rise above this flawed film either.
I'm going with a generous one out of five for 'Loot'. My favourite scene is one in which Mahaakshay's character goes next door to demand that a noisy neighbor turn down his blaring speakers. In reply, the neighbor pours his glass of beer on Mahaakshay's head. If only the audience could do the same to the perpetrators of this lousy comedy.
